St.PeterPaul Special School – Mugaiyur Village

Since 1995, the St. Peter Paul Special Residential School for disabled children has served as a beacon of hope for numerous disabled children across Villupuram District. The school has played a crucial role in challenging and transforming superstitious and negative beliefs about disability. It was established with a strong vision to educate disabled children who had been left at home without access to basic education due to economic, family, and mobility constraints.

The school provides institutional care, offering formal education alongside vocational training in various fields such as sewing, embroidery, mobile phone repair, desktop publishing (DTP) and offset printing, jute bag making, and candle making. This comprehensive approach aims to make these children independent and self-sustaining, equipping them with the skills necessary for a better life. The success of this initiative is evident, as many beneficiaries have advanced to higher education, vocational training, or have started self-employment ventures using the skills acquired at the school.

Over the past 29 years, St. Peter Paul Special Residential School has provided invaluable support to thousands of disabled children, regardless of the nature of their disabilities. The school offers formal and special education, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, play centres, vocational training, life skills programs, higher education scholarships, and family economic development assistance programs.

The school supports children with various disabilities, providing them with separate accommodations featuring disabled-friendly infrastructure. The children enjoy three nutritious meals a day, snacks, and access to indoor and outdoor entertainment facilities. Through its dedicated services, St. Peter Paul Special Residential School continues to make a significant positive impact on the lives of disabled children, helping them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.
