Robert Schwaab memorial Sewing skill training centre

To promote self-reliance among rural poor women in our region, SPECT initiated a tailoring skill training centre on our campus in 2021. This project aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of underprivileged women, including those from poor economic backgrounds, widows, abandoned women, and victims of domestic violence and sexual harassment, by fostering self-employment opportunities.

The training program covers a comprehensive range of sewing skills, from basic techniques to advanced women’s outfit stitching. Upon successful completion of the training, participants receive course completion certificates and, for those deemed deserving, sewing machines to kickstart their entrepreneurial journey. Additionally, the program provides assistance in obtaining bank loans and job placement support to ensure the women can effectively utilise their new skills.

Since its inception, the tailoring skill training centre has trained 120 women from marginalised communities, helping them excel in their paths towards sustainable livelihoods. This initiative has empowered these women, enabling them to achieve economic independence and improve their overall quality of life.
