Emergency Response
Whenever the livelihoods of underprivileged populations are severely impacted by both man-made and natural disasters such as tsunamis, floods, fire accidents, caste, and communal riots, SPECT’s quick response team promptly analyses the situation and provides essential relief materials on a humanitarian basis, regardless of caste, creed, or religion. Over the past decade, SPECT has built a robust record of relief distribution during events like the NISHA, THANE, and GAJA cyclones. Additionally, SPECT has responded to the victims of numerous communal riots in the region.
As a responsible community-based organisation, SPECT extended its support to vulnerable people who lost their livelihoods during the recent global lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. SPECT’s interventions revealed the dire circumstances faced by poor daily wage earners, migrant labourers, and plastic goods vendors in our target areas during the lockdown. These individuals were confined to their homes, which severely impacted their economic conditions.
In response, SPECT supported around 1600 families from different villages with survival packs containing rice, dhal, cooking oil, and vegetables. Furthermore, SPECT reached out to approximately 300 families of disabled children from various parts of the district, providing much-needed assistance during this critical time. Through these efforts, SPECT has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to supporting underprivileged and vulnerable populations in times of crisis, ensuring they receive timely and essential aid to overcome their hardships.
